About WRMS

WRMS (previously, Weather Risk) is an agriculture and dairy risk management company. It was incubated by IIT Kanpur in 2004 with investments from SIDBI & IIT Kanpur. Over the years we have received investments & grants from UPL, ILO, and the Ford Foundation.

We leverage data, technology and financial innovation to develop risk management solutions that help farmers enhance productivity, gain a secure income, and practice sustainable farming.

Over the years we have built a strong reputation for performance and reliability through our work across 22 states in India and 15 countries across the globe. .. We take pride in the income guarantee that we have created for over 2 million farmers through our collaboration with the Central & State Governments and renowned brands like Pepsico, WWF, World Bank and HDFC among others.

What makes all this possible is our 350+ team of multi-disciplinary experts across Agricultural Science, Data Science, Meteorology, Actuarial Science and Information Technology.

Our Founders

Sonu is a first generation entrepreneur, and an alumnus of IIT Kanpur and IIM Calcutta. He is passionate about technology, finance, and innovation; and is a member of the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP).

Under his leadership, WRMS has grown over the last 15 years to serve over 2 million farmers; and developed many industry-first index insurance initiatives in India. His penchant for collaborations has helped WRMS undertake path-breaking work in the areas of smart farming, climate risk management, and insurance through partnerships with governments, international donor agencies, and large corporations.

Sonu Agrawal

(Founder & Managing Director)

Anuj is a Chartered Accountant, Company Secretary, and a member of the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP). He has over 20 years of experience in project finance and risk management. Under his dynamic leadership, WRMS has built & leveraged its multi-disciplinary capabilities to offer industry leading weather & agricultural risk management solutions.

Anuj is widely recognized as a thought leader in the Agri-insurance space, and is a frequent speaker at industry events.

Anuj Kumbhat

(Co-founder & CEO)

Ashish has over 14 years of experience in Electronics & Embedded Systems. He holds a doctorate, along with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kanpur. He is passionate about technology, innovation, and research.

At WRMS, he is responsible for building the team’s capabilities in telematics, IoT, Big Data, and GIS to deliver cutting edge data-driven smart farming solutions.

He holds multiple patents, and has been published in reputed international journals. He is also a frequent speaker at industry events in the field of telematics, IoT, and Big Data.

Dr Ashish Agarwal

(Co-founder & CTO)

Core Team

Amitesh is a seasoned sales & business development professional with over 15 years of experience across banking and insurance. He holds an MBA (General Management) and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.

He brings to the table expertise in channel management, customer service, & operations. And at WRMS he is responsible for scaling up the business through growth driven strategic and operational initiatives.

Amitesh Ahir

(Business Development)

CB has over 12 years of experience in the IT industry. He holds a Master’s degree in Computer Applications and is passionate about process optimization and automation.

At WRMS, he is tasked with the responsibility of improving the processes and providing the best operational solutions for a portfolio that includes weather data collection & processing, pricing, CCEs, enrolment, proposal verification, and bank audit.

CB Mehta

(Process Management)

Mehdi holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Computer Applications. His passion for IT, Agriculture, and Machine Learning has helped build the 11-year long association that he has had with WRMS.

Here at WRMS, he heads the IT function and has been actively involved in developing the IT support for SecuFarm.

Mehdi Abbas

Rizwan is a highly experienced IT professional, with over 11 years of experience working with WRMS. Over these years, he has held various positions of responsibility across software development & troubleshooting, client servicing, and server management.

Rizwan holds a Master’s degree in Computer Applications and currently heads the IT function at WRMS. He has been instrumental in WRMS’ penetration in dairy & marine segments.

Rizwan Ahmad

(Information Technology)

Ankit holds a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and is passionate about technology. He has been working with WRMS in the technical domain for over 8 years.

At WRMS, he leads a team of development, engineering, product, design and marketing professionals for product solutions delivery to the clients. He has been instrumental in successfully installing, calibrating, and providing maintenance for our smart farming devices across geographies.

Ankit Agarwal

(Engineering)

Tanu comes with a diverse experience of over 15 years across banking & financial services. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce and a Master’s degree in Risk Management.

During her well-rounded career, she has been responsible for client relation management, key account management, human resource management, and corporate communications. At WRMS, she has been instrumental in hiring for key management positions, handling innovative outreach campaigns, and imbuing the brand’s core values across all functions.

Tanu Ahuja Kumbhat

(HR & Administration)

Neha holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and is pursuing actuarial sciences. She is passionate about risk modelling, data analytics, and insurance & its applications.

At WRMS, she leads the data analytics & underwriting team, and she has been instrumental in expanding the company’s global footprint. Her role here includes portfolio pricing, loss assessment & management, and designing customized insurance products.
